Riverside residents can apply to serve on the county’s 19-person Grand Jury.

The application window closes April 3. Service lasts from July 1 to June 30, 2026.

The Grand Jury investigates county government, and does not oversee trials.

In the past year, the Grand Jury released reports concerning the county’s 911 response system, Blythe’s economic prospects, March Air Reserve Base’s transparency, county employee’s use of Narcan in response to opioid overdoses, Riverside’s special districts, traffic congestion, a sheriff’s inmate training center, and the Office of the Public Guardian.

Applicants must be law-abiding citizens above the age of 18, who have resided in Riverside County for at least one year. Meetings are held four days a week. The county pays a per diem of $60 a day, and mileage costs.

Applicants are reviewed by judges.

Last year, only 12 new citizens applied.

Sixty-eight of the prospective grand jurors were held over from previous grand juries. Thirty-three out of the 80 prospects, and seven out of 19 selected jurors, were women. Fifty-eight of the 80 prospects, and all selected jurors, were retired. Forty-two of the prospects, and 12 of the selected jurors, were white.

The application form, available online, must be mailed to the court at Superior Court of California/County of Riverside/Jury Services Division/P.O. Box 400/Riverside, CA 92502.
