Aug. 24, starting this year, is Kobe Bryant Day, chosen because his NBA numbers were 8 and 24.

Kobe Bryant Day falls the day after his birthday, and was established to honor his memory; he and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna died Jan. 26, 2020 in a helicopter crash.

Today a California federal jury found that the Los Angeles County sheriff’s department and fire department violated crash victims’ rights by publicly disseminating graphic photos of their remains, and awarded $31 million to their families.

The cases are Bryant v. County of Los Angeles et al., case number 2:20-cv-09582, and Chester et al. v. County of Los Angeles et al., case number 2:20-cv-10844, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

Judge John F. Walter presided.
