Latravius Gobert will serve 35 years to life despite challenging his second-degree murder conviction on the grounds of hearsay evidence.
Gobert strangled his girlfriend to death in March 2018, in front of their 6-year-old daughter.
He argued that Riverside Superior Court made a mistake when it allowed hearsay evidence of two prior domestic violence incidents. He also sought independent review of the court’s decision not to allow evidence from a police officer into the trial.
