AB701 passed the Senate on Sept. 8 and will go back to the Assembly.
Under this bill, warehouses like Amazon will have to be clear early on about employee work quotas, and would be prohibited from imposing time-off-task limits that do not reasonably accommodate restroom or meal breaks.
Around 113,800 people work in warehouses in the Inland Empire, according to the state’s Employment Development Department census data for July.
Major backers of AB701 include a nonprofit in Ontario called the Warehouse Worker Resource Center, and the Teamsters; opponents include the California Chamber of Commerce.
