In honor of National Car Donation Month, Follow Our Courts is looking briefly at tax information that might apply.

  1. In order to get a tax deduction, you must itemize your tax return.
  2. You must include an IRS form 1098c or a receipt from a qualifying charity, which has 30 days to provide one. The IRS has a hotline to check charities’ eligibility: 1-877-829-5500
  3. The deductible amount of your vehicle donation is directly related to the selling price of your vehicle. You can claim up to $499. If the car is worth $5,000 or more, you may submit an IRS form 8383, which requires an independent appraisal. The deduction is still limited
