San Bernardino Superior Court is under new leadership.
Presiding Judge Glenn Yabuno and Assistant Presiding Judge Lisa Rogan have taken over.
The pair took over from Presiding Judge Michael Sachs Jan. 1 and Yabuno, who previously served as assistant presiding judge.
Yabuno said his main goal is to increase access to the court, especially to the state borders, Needles and Big Bear.
“I’m looking forward to working with everyone in my next two-year term,” Yabuno said.
Yabuno graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1983, and immediately became a Deputy District Attorney in San Bernardino in 1984. He worked there for four years, until he left to practice civil defense law at the firm Wilson, Borror, Dunn & Scott in 1988, he said.
In 1991, he returned to the District Attorney’s office as Lead Deputy District Attorney. Yabuno led a special prosecution group responsible for criminal and civil prosecution of environmental consumer protection and California Division of Occupational Safety and Health cases, according to a Judicial Council agenda.
In 2010, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Yabuno to the bench. He oversaw criminal, civil, family law, juvenile, guardianship and traffic cases, according to the Judicial Council.
Yabuno served as Assistant Presiding Judge under Sachs, who Yabuno said did a wonderful job as presiding judge.
Yabuno said he is concerned with the six-judge vacancy on the court, a long-running shortage that is higher than most other courts in the state.
He welcomes input from local partners, he said.
Rogan graduated from the University of La Verne School of Law in 2001, and Gov. Edmund “Jerry” Brown appointed her to the bench in 2013.
She served as Supervising Judge of the Rancho Cucamonga District before she became assistant presiding judge. Rogan also worked for the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office, and in law enforcement for Los Angeles County and Pomona before that, according to the press release announcing her appointment.
