Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the appointments of San Bernardino Superior Commissioners Cecilia Joo and Dina Amani to judgeships March 17.
As commissioners, both Joo and Amani managed duties similar to a judge’s.
Amani served in a family law courtroom S-48.
Joo handled child support cases in courtroom S-49.
Commissioners are voted in by a court’s judges.
“We are proud to see two of our court commissioners take the bench as judges. Their years of dedicated service to this court have demonstrated their deep knowledge of the law, commitment to justice, and unwavering professionalism. We congratulate them as they continue to serve the San Bernardino County community in their new roles,” said Presiding Judge Lisa Rogan in a press release.
Amani was voted in as commissioner in 2019. From 2014 to 2019 she owned a firm in Corona, Farhat Law Firm, APC, which handled personal injury, estate planning, probate, bankruptcy, civil lawsuits and family law.
She was an associate at Ewaniszyk Law Firm from 2005 to 2019, Rosin & Associates from 2003 to 2004, and Cline & Associates from 1997 to 1998. She was a Merrill Lynch wealth management adviser from 2000 to 2002, and an intern law clerk at the Chicago Stock Exchange in 1999.
Joo was voted in as commissioner in 2023. She joined the San Bernardino District Attorney’s Office in 2007, and was promoted to Supervising Deputy District Attorney in 2018.
Both Joo and Amani are University of La Verne College of Law and Public Service graduates.
