Fausto Atilano of Temecula’s Fausto’s Bail Bonds is facing 14 felony counts alleging false judicial records and perjury.
The Department of Insurance claimed he created fraudulent motions to deprive the courts from bail bond payments that resulted in false gains of over $528,000.
He claimed fugitives who had taken out his bonds were in Mexico, and had worked with Mexican officials to find look-alike subjects that would pose for photographs, the department claimed. In instances where fugitives were in a foreign country, Atilano would no longer have to pay bail bonds back to the court.
Multiple fugitives later denied that they were ever in Mexico.
Atilano’s attorney, Virginia Blumenthal of Blumenthal & Moore, has not yet replied to our request for comment.
Atilano is charged with five counts of preparing a false record and nine counts of perjury.
His license was previously restricted from Oct. 10, 2017 to July 8, 2021, for a prior department action.
He was issued his license July 1, 1998. He opened his business, then known as Bulldog Bail Bonds, in 2002, according to a Secretary of State document.
The warrant for his arrest was issued June 2.
He has already posted his $529,000 bail. Arraignment is scheduled for July 20.
