Former Adelanto Mayor Pro Tem Jermaine Wright was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison Oct. 3 for accepting a cash bribe to expand marijuana zoning in Adelanto and for hiring a man to burn down his restaurant.

A jury found Wright guilty of attempted arson and bribery June 22, after a six-day trial. The sentence comes with three years of supervised release.

“He abused his position of trust as an elected official to line his own pockets. Unfortunately, his decision to accept a $10,000 bribe payment was not a one-off event,” prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum.
