ProSe Legal, a legal-document preparation business, is partnering with local businesses of all sizes to provide services to business owners and their employees.
“You are a small business, you want to offer your employees something. Being able to bring ProSe to them as a service is a benefit you don’t have to pay for,” said Jaynie Boren, ProSe’s chief operating officer, by phone Aug. 1. “Giving employees access to ProSe – which offers family law, estate planning and trusts, conservatorships, expungements… – comes at no cost to the employer. ProSe will go to you.”
Boren also mentions services for business owners specifically.
“You may need an LLC. We can help with that,” she said. “We can do a deed transfer, if you are buying the building your office or shop is in.”
And, Boren says, the services the employees may use are especially important to business owners.
“As a business owner, you should be looking at your trust. Your business is an asset to leave to your family members. You might have a will, but a will doesn’t protect you from having to go into probate. A trust protects you and your dependents or anyone designated within your trust from going into probate. Probate is very expensive. A percentage would go to an attorney. A percentage goes to the state. It’s usually a nine-month process. If you have an estate plan, it’s defined by your wishes and can be implemented upon your death.”
ProSe professionals cover all standard document preparation, including restraining orders, which may be needed if someone is harassing an employee, or clearing a legal record after an employee has served time.
“We can do the documents for those and help you file them,” Boren said.
“An employer might say, ‘I know I have an employee that has some family issues going on. I can’t get involved in it.”
She said ProSe will come to the business at the staff’s convenience to talk about options offered to businesses at low cost, that deal with those sensitive and private domestic issues: custody, conservatorship, divorce, restraining orders, etc.
“We do quite a few uncontested divorces,” Boren said. “These can start around $1,000, versus hiring attorneys for many thousands (of dollars), depending on the specifics of a client’s needs.”
Boren stresses that ProSe is not a law office and does not offer legal advice.
“ProSe prepares documents so they are ensured to be done timely and correctly. If they are self-filled out and incorrect, they will be denied by the court and run the risk of exceeding the deadline.”
But ProSe professionals do offer referral services and have knowledge of which attorneys locally are most appropriate for a specific situation, if one is needed, she said.
ProSe is available to businesses in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, and has offices in Ontario, Calimesa, Redlands and Eastvale.
