  • Estate of Aaron Smith v. Hemet Police Department (5:23-cv-01767 ): Civil Rights Act. Unassigned.
    • Aaron Smith died in Hemet jail under suspicion of minor trespassing on Sept. 7, 2022. His family is suing the police department. They allege police used excessive force during the arrest, and that K-9 bites might have resulted in Smith’s death. They also claim police were negligent in taking care of Smith.
  • Raul Uriarte-Limon v. J Morgan Oil LLC (5:23-cv-01747): Americans with Disabilities Act. California Central District Judge Maame Frimpong presides.
    • Raul Uriarte-Limon, a paraplegic is suing J. Morgan Oil under the allegation that a company-owned gas station on the corner of Ontario’s West Nevada Street and East Euclid Avenue violates the Americans with Disabilities Act because the paint designating handicapped parking is faded.
  • Nelson Chilin v. Donut Factory, LLC (5:23-cv-01754): Americans with Disabilities Act. California Central District Judge Stanley Blumenfeld Jr. presides.
    • Nelson Chillin, who is paraplegic, alleges a donut shop on the corner of Redlands’ Texas Street and West Colton Avenue violates the Americans with Disabilities Act because the handicapped parking spot allegedly has faded paint and no sign.
  • Scott L. Kuykendall v. United States Postal Service (5:23-cv-01761): Personal injury. California Central District Judge Dolly Gee presides.
    • Scott Kuykendall is suing the USPS for premises liability after he slipped on ice at their Big Bear post office. He says he received a head injury requiring 15 stitches and a wrist fracture. 
  • Alan Smith v. Exactech, Inc. (5:23-cv-01763): Diversity-product liability. California Central District Judge Jesus Bernal presides.
    • Alan Smith of Lake Arrowhead received a knee replacement from Exactech. Smith says he required revision surgery after the replacement caused pain, swelling and instability. The replacement system was later recalled by Exactech.
  • Andrew Coleman v. Greyhound Lines, Inc. (5:23-cv-01765): Transferred from Riverside Superior Court – tort/motor vehicle. California Central District Judge Shashi Kewalramani presides.
    • Andrew Coleman alleged he was injured during a motor accident in Palm Springs while riding on a Greyhound bus.
