The federal government will forfeit $1.1 million it seized from an armored car company with the help of San Bernardino sheriff’s deputies in an April 13 settlement.

Empyreal Enterprises claimed the Drug Enforcement Administration and Federal Bureau of Investigation worked with San Bernardino sheriff’s deputies to illegally stop and seize money from their cars three times. The company claimed the agencies conflated their cash from legitimate, state-licensed cannabis companies with illegal drug proceeds.

San Bernardino Sheriff Shannon Dicus has until May 13, after an extension, to respond to the complaint.

In separate court documents, Dicus and his deputy asserted they had legitimate reasons for the stops and their seizure
