They examine county and city governments, elected officials and prisons. Criminal indictments in San Bernardino are handled by a separate grand jury.

Jurors are paid $60 per day, with mileage.

More than 40 San Bernardino County residents applied for the 2023 grand jury. Applicants go before a judge panel that results in a lottery selection. Nineteen people serve on the jury.

More information is provided by San Bernardino Superior Court, the Judicial Branch of California and the California Grand Jurors’ Association.

The 2022 grand jury reported on the San Bernardino County Sheriff, the Redlands Unified School District, the Redlands Animal Shelter, and county jails.

The 2022 grand jury was displaced by a structure fire in June, and disrupted by the deaths of two jurors, according to the final report.
