Riverside Superior Court will hold separate groundbreaking ceremonies on Jan. 14 in Indio and Menifee to celebrate the start of construction on two new courthouse projects, according to a news release from Riverside Superior Court.
COVID-19 protocols will be in place at both ceremonies. Masks will be mandatory, and 6-foot social distancing will be required where possible.
Both ceremonies are open to the public, but the court asks people planning to attend to contact courtexecutiveoffice@riverside.courts.ca.gov
The groundbreaking for the new Indio Juvenile and Family Courthouse will be at 9 a.m. at 47-671 Oasis St.
Presiding Judge John M. Monterosso, Riverside County Supervisor Manuel Perez, Indio Mayor Waymond Fermon, Judicial Council chief administrative officer John Wordlaw, court executive officer W. Samuel Hamrick Jr., and representatives from elected officals’ offices will give remarks.
The new courthouse will provide a new five-courtroom facility to consolidate all family court and juvenile court functions in the Desert Region.

The groundbreaking for the new Menifee Justice Center will be at 2 p.m. at 27401 Town Center Drive.
Monterosso, Assemblymember Kelly Seyarto, Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Hewitt (5th District), Menifee Mayor Bill Zimmerman, Wordlaw, and Hamrick will give remarks.
The new civil and family law courthouse will have room for basic services currently not possible due to space restrictions in the current courthouse — such as jury assembly and deliberation rooms, an adequately sized self-help center, a children’s waiting room and attorney interview/witness waiting rooms. The new building will also address overcrowding, security and accessibility issues at the current facilities.
