Police shot him when he turned away, the complaint claims. Erika and Marie Merriman, Sanchez’s granddaughters, are co-plaintiffs. According to the San Bernardino Police Department’s release following Merriman’s death, a 911 caller reported that Merriman was hitting a woman and on methamphetamine.
