Three Inland Empire cases are heading to the California Supreme Court, the court announced March 21.

Each of the cases’ briefings are deferred pending judgments in lead cases.

Riverside’s People v. Reed (S289067/E083073/RIF1300690) asks whether a resentencing statute applies to defendants who had their prior convictions struck. The Court of Appeal ruled that it did not, and defendant Guy Reed appealed their decision. 

Reed had been convicted of battery, assault and criminal threats in 2013. He had three prior prison terms, and was sentenced to 16 years in state prison.

The case briefing is delayed until the court
