  • Samantha Arredondo v. County of San Bernardino (5:24-cv-00163): Civil Rights Act, California Central District Judge Kenly Kato presides.
    • Arredondo sues the county over the fatal shooting of her son, Samuel Arredondo, by sheriff’s deputies. Her complaint says Samuel was shot the night of Jan. 11, 2023, a Sunday, in Joshua Tree. The California Department of Justice is investigating the death. 
  • Irma Rodriguez v. County of Riverside (5:24-cv-00165): Civil Rights Act, California Central District Judge Kenly Kato presides.
    • Rodriguez sues over the fatal shooting of her son, Jesus Rodriguez, by sheriff’s deputies on Feb. 6, 2023. Jesus was shot at a house by the corner of John F. Kennedy Drive and Perris Boulevard. He was mentally ill, but did not represent a threat, according to the complaint.
  • Matthew John Polson v. County of San Bernardino (5:24-cv-00161): civil rights, California Central District Judge Jesus Bernal presides.
    • Polson claims sheriff’s deputies used excessive force by punching him, kneeing him, tasing him and beating him with flashlights. Polson had refused to pull over for a traffic stop, hit a car, and ran away. His complaint says he decided to surrender by lying down on the ground.
  • Koron Lekeith Lowe v. County of Riverside (5:24-cv-00169): Civil Rights Act, California Central District Judge Sunshine Sykes presides.
    • Lowe sues the county on claims he was unnecessarily shot in the face by Riverside County sheriff’s deputies and attacked by a Riverside sheriff’s dog at the command of its handler.  Lowe was wanted on charges of murder and attempted murder, according to Riverside Superior Court records. He was sitting unarmed in his car, outside the Morongo Casino in Cabazon, on Jan. 26, 2022, when the deputies ordered him to come out, the complaint says. His criminal case is ongoing.
  • Gilbert Noriega v. County of San Bernardino (5:24-cv-00170 ): Civil Rights Act, Unassigned.
    • Noriega sues over the in-custody death of his son, Jason Noriega. Jason was arrested Jan. 9, 2023, by and was taken to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, according to the complaint. The complaint claims arresting officers used excessive force during the arrest, that Jason was released early from the hospital, and that Jason received illicit drugs while being held in the West Valley Detention Center. The excessive force ultimately led to his death, the complaint claims.
  • Braiden Goedhart v. City of Beaumont (5:24-cv-00173 ): Civil Rights Act, Unassigned.
    • Goedhart sues on claims of excessive force. He was offroading with two friends on public land on Jan. 14, 2023, when Beaumont police officers began to chase them, the complaint says. The officers rammed their car, and fired multiple shots into the car. The complaint does not give a reason for the aggression. One of his friends, Garrett Blackwell, died from his gun wounds, according to a release from Beaumont police. The release said that their truck had fled from an investigative stop. The other friend, James Pietronico, filed his own suit against Beaumont Nov. 29.
  • Daniel Govind v. State of California (5:23-cv-01080): prisoner civil rights, California Central District Judge John Walter presides.
    • Govind, a 76-year-old inmate at the California Institute for Men, Chino, claims the prison failed to protect him from an inmate that assaulted him.
  • Peter Casey Cruz v. County of Riverside (5:24-cv-00134): prisoner civil rights, California Central District Judge Josephine Staton presides.
    • Cruz claims he was improperly classified and treated as a criminal inmate, instead of a civil detainee, when he was held in a Riverside County jail  from February to July.
  • Gary Chacon v. San Bernardino County (5:24-cv-00140): Transferred From County Court – Civil Rights Act, California Central District Judge Hernan Vera presides.
    • Chacon claims he was improperly arrested while filming the exterior of the Calvary Chapel of the High Desert in Hesperia. His complaint says he was held at the High Desert Detention Center for 12 hours, and that he was knocked unconscious by another inmate.
  • Cameron Harrell v. I Love Sushi (5:24-cv-00105): Americans With Disabilities Act, California Central District Judge Sunshine Sykes presides.
    • Harrell claims Highland’s I Love Sushi, at 7750 Palm Ave., violated the ADA. The sushi restaurant is a standalone building in a strip mall. A van accessible ADA parking spot is next to it, on the strip mall’s main line of buildings. Harrell claims the accessible parking spot is designated for the main strip, and therefore does not satisfy the restaurant’s ADA standards. The ADA requires ADA parking for each parking lot, and does not distinguish between buildings in the lot.
  • Cameron Harrell v. Jason A Greeley (5:24-cv-00125): Americans With Disabilities Act. California Central District Judge Kenly Kato presides.
    • Harrell claims Lowbrow Ink, a tattoo shop in Grand Terrace, violates the ADA by not properly designating its ADA parking spot, by having a ramp to the building that blocks the access aisle, and by not having a complaint ramp leading up to the entrance. There is a second ADA accessible parking spot at the side of the building with an unobstructed access aisle.
  • Cameron Harrell v. Lilia Mejia (5:24-cv-00166): Americans With Disabilities Act. California Central District Judge Kenly Kato presides.
    • Harrell claims Lilias Hair Studio, at 5426 Riverside Drive, Chino, violates the ADA by not having proper indications for the ADA van accessible parking spot.
  • Nelson Chilin v. Ontario Farmers Market (5:24-cv-00106): Americans With Disabilities Act. California Central District Judge Kenly Kato presides.
    • Chilin claims the grocery store at 1701 S. Mountain Ave., which is not an open air farmer’s market, violated the ADA by not having ADA parking signage, properly painted strikes, an access aisle with a level surface slope or a ramp to enter the business.
  • Nelson Chilin v. Ekab Elidiab (5:24-cv-00126): Americans With Disabilities Act. California Central District Judge Jesus Bernal presides.
    • Chilin claims Gene’s Market & Liquor at 25976 9th St., San Bernardino, violated the ADA by not posting required signage for ADA accessible parking, not painting stripes on the access aisle, not having a wide enough access aisle and by placing a ramp in the access aisle.
  • Nelson Chilin v. Redhill Coffee Shop (5:24-cv-00159): Americans With Disabilities Act. California Central District Judge Sunshine Sykes presides.
    • Chilin claims this coffee shop, at 8111 Foothill Blvd., Rancho Cucamonga, violates the ADA by not having a properly indicated, painted and designated ADA accessible parking lot, and by not having an access aisle with a level surface slope.
  • Nelson Chilin v. Painted Dough, Inc. (5:24-cv-00132): Americans With Disabilities Act. California Central District Judge Kenly Kato presides.
    • Chilin claims a donut shop at t 5702 Riverside Drive, Chino, violated the ADA by not having required signs or painted markings, and by having an access aisle shorter than minimum requirements.
  • Nelson Chilin v. Hollywood 28 LLC. (5:24-cv-00121): Americans With Disabilities Act. California Central District Judge Sunshine Sykes presides.
    • Chilin claims the Mission Mountain Liquor store at 830 S. Mountain Ave., Ontario, violates the ADA by not properly indicating its ADA parking spot.
  • Nelson Chilin v. Marco Guzman (5:24-cv-00175): Americans With Disabilities Act. California Central District Judge Jesus Bernal presides.
    • Chilin claims that Undercar Plus Chino, an auto parts store at 5405 Riverside Drive, Chino, violates the ADA by not having required signs, paint markings or an access aisle with a level surface slope.
  • Jardine Gougis v. Kimnga Le (5:24-cv-00157): Americans With Disabilities Act. California Central District Judge Sunshine Sykes presides.
    • Gougis claims Style Nails, at 5606 Riverside Drive, Chino, violates the ADA by not having a step without a ramp.
