- Metoyer sues on behalf of her son, Shaundale Booker Jr., who died while in custody in Riverside’s Cois M. Byrd Detention Center. He was transmitted HIV when raped by his cellmate, and died of the virus two years later, on Dec. 15, 2023, the complaint claims. He was 19 years old when placed in custody. Jail staff were negligent in providing treatment and testing blood, Metoyer claims. She sues for deliberate indifference in violation of his 14th Amendment rights, municipal liability, failure to protect, wrongful death and failure to obtain medical care.
