- This complaint is brought by the family of Christian Drye, who was shot in his backyard by Hemet police officers in the morning of Feb. 21. The complaint claims that Drye was told by police that a man wanted for theft might be in his backyard. Drye told the police not to go into his backyard, that he had a firearm, and that he would check the backyard himself. When Drye checked the backyard, a police officer fired over Drye’s fence and fatally shot him. The complaint brings 13 claims, eight for civil rights violations and five for violations of state
